Benoit Pouliot 2016 Oilers Heritage Classic Game Worn Jersey
This game worn jersey comes from one of those rare, unforgettable moments in the Oilers history —Benoit Pouliot wore it during the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic. The game, played outdoors in front of over 33,000 fans, was a true spectacle. With the chill in the air, the wide-open sky, and all the energy of a classic outdoor game. This jersey is a direct link to that moment in time, when the NHL brought its game to the elements.
The jersey itself is an Oilers’ alternate home uniform—nothing too special in terms of design, really. Instead of creating a whole new look for the event, they just slapped on a commemorative Heritage Classic patch and called it a day. A simple touch, but hey, it works. After all, who needs a completely new design when you can just add a patch and still make history, right?
The jersey is one of only four jerseys made for the game. This one was worn by Pouliot during the first period and comes in a size 56. Made by Reebok in Canada, it’s as much about the design and rarity as it is about the history it carries. It also has a Fanatics hologram on the fight strap for full authenticity, just to make sure it’s the real deal.
As for Pouliot, he did record an assist during the game, though not during the first period while wearing this jersey. Still, it adds to the context of the game, which saw the Oilers shut out the Jets 3-0 at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg. It’s a piece of the Heritage Classic, regardless of when or how Pouliot was involved in the scoring.
I picked it up from the MeiGray website, where it was on consignment from the person who might originally won it when the set was auctioned. I’m glad it’s now part of my collection.
